CENTRE

 FOLD

The Centre Fold Gallery and Studio Space was based in Guernsey, Channel Islands. The purpose of the gallery was to provide a space where young people could discover and enjoy art and design in a pretentiousnessless environment. It existed to promote art & design locally to young people who would not normally have the opportunity to see such events/exhibitions and to educate the wider public of the benefits of having a cultured society. The philosophy of the gallery was to operate under the premise that everything we did was for the greater good of art in the island and that it is fun.

The gallery was set up after the success of the Readerswives’ curated 2006 exhibition ‘My Paint Tin Weighs a Ton’ which featured wall paintings by Mysterious Al and Matt Sewell with additional work by Faile, Barry Mcgee, Miss Van, Bast, Mudwig, Banksy, Dave Kinsey, Futura, Phil Frost, D*Face, Shepherd Fairey, Clare Rojas and Mr Jago.  My Paint Tin Weighs a Ton was also featured in Modart magazine with an article penned by RWC member Dred.

With the help of funding and sponsorship we bought visiting artists and designers over to the island and supported local returning art graduates by offering them advice and somewhere to exhibit their work. This is important in helping local graduates beginning art-based careers, as well as helping us to build a network of artists who we can work with in the future.

Over the three year period the Centre Fold Gallery was open we had the pleasure of working with many talented artists from the UK, including Mysterious Al, Matt Sewell, Richt, 45rpm, Cheba, Inkie, Mr Jago, Nikill, Guy Mckinley, Showchicken, Peter Root, Mary Thompson, Mudwig, Paris, Eco, Bhat(eh?), Tim Bowditch and China Mike.
